Food Bank For New York City, one of the nation’s largest hunger-relief organizations, needed a more engaging way to convert traditional food drives into cost-effective cash fundraisers and boost peer-to-peer giving across the five boroughs.

Partnering with Convio’s TeamRaiser, the Food Bank launched a Virtual Food Drive with a “virtual grocery store” shopping experience where supporters select items and check out with a cash donation. In the first six months the program nearly quadrupled the number of hosts, drove a 227% increase in fundraising, 189% growth in number of gifts, and a $7.55 rise in average gift size, and attracted Peapod® by Stop & Shop as a sponsor who underwrote deployment and hosting.
