Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, operating a network of more than 200 member food banks and supporting roughly 50,000 local agencies. After the surge in online giving following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, the organization needed a stronger internet strategy: easier online donation paths, better email communications, and back-end systems to sync online and offline gifts.
Working with Convio (and partner Merkle), Feeding America adopted an integrated CRM and email-marketing platform to build targeted campaigns, pre-filled donation forms, visual landing pages (the “virtual fridge”) and data syncs to its offline database. The approach drove stronger engagement and revenue—online donations grew 40% in two years, the email list grew about 10%, the Thanksgiving campaign raised nearly $800,000, and the “Fill America’s Fridge” matching campaign generated $40,000 online plus a corporate match.
