A Convio Case Study
The Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) is a nonprofit research and policy organization that fights abusive lending practices to protect homeownership and family wealth. CRL struggled with an outdated system that made mass email campaigns time-consuming and unscalable, created deliverability problems that required technical oversight, prevented targeted and personalized outreach, and left website updates dependent on a single technical staffer.
In June 2005 CRL implemented Convio to power its email, advocacy and website needs, gaining a WYSIWYG editor, templates, workflow approvals and improved ISP whitelist status. As a result CRL reduced campaign production time from a day to under 30 minutes, grew its list 240% in a year, launched 29 campaigns with a 26.6% average open rate and 97%+ delivery, achieved an 8% Tell-a-Friend recruitment rate, and saw roughly ten times more monthly sign-ups while enabling integrated, co‑branded partner advocacy.
