A Convio Case Study
The American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) is a nonprofit that funds research and educates the public about Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. AHAF needed a website that equally served three disease audiences, improved navigation and accessibility for visually impaired users, supported specialized sections (Q&A, research grants, publications), and provided stronger online fundraising and integrated offline/online campaign capabilities.
Working with TerpSys and Convio, AHAF implemented a user-centered redesign with scenario-driven audience paths, “separate but equal” information architecture for each disease, accessible visual design, expert Q&A connections, and Convio CMS/fundraising integration (including a Target Team approach and 17 tailored donation forms). The new site (launched Oct 2008) drove a 63% increase in donations (Oct ’08–Jul ’09 vs prior year), a 46% year-over-year rise in online gifts for FY09, a 29% increase in unique visitors, 25% more total visits and large gains in email opt-ins across the three programs.
