Wisk Aero Takes Flight with High Performance Computing (HPC) in AWS

Wisk Aero, an aviation company developing eVTOL aircraft, faced challenges running computationally intensive CFD simulations for its novel aircraft designs. Their on-premises high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure required significant capital expenditure for underutilized hardware and increased operational overhead. To address this, Wisk Aero worked with Converge Technology Solutions to migrate these HPC workloads to Amazon EC2.

Converge Technology Solutions created a fully-funded pilot environment on AWS for Wisk Aero, allowing them to benchmark performance. The solution utilized purpose-built Amazon EC2 Hpc6a Instances, AWS ParallelCluster, and Amazon FSx Lustre storage within the AWS GovCloud (US) environment. This migration resulted in a 10-20 percent improvement in runtime and provided significant cost savings by allowing Wisk Aero to scale compute power on-demand instead of expanding its physical data center footprint.
