23andMe, a biotechnology company, faced challenges with its on-premises high-performance computing (HPC) environment for genomics research. Their legacy storage systems hindered medical innovation and could not support modern workflows that require multiple, simultaneous data access. The company sought a scalable cloud solution to overcome issues with cost, data management, and performance. Converge Technology Solutions helped assess these storage and economic challenges.

The solution implemented by Converge Technology Solutions involved leveraging the AWS Migration Acceleration Program and introducing the WekaFS data management platform. This provided 23andMe with a unified file system that supports multiple protocols and seamlessly integrates flash and S3 storage. As a result, 23andMe successfully migrated its HPC production to AWS, enabling them to dynamically scale performance, support mixed workloads on a multi-petabyte dataset, and significantly reduce infrastructure cost and management overhead.
