A Convention Data Services Case Study

FABTECH Uses Alternate Registration Tools to Process Attendees

Fabtech, North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing event, faced a major registration challenge with more than 31,000 attendees and 1,400 exhibitors arriving at the same time. Convention Data Services (CDS) was brought in to help reduce long registration lines and move people quickly onto the show floor, using alternate check-in and registration tools.

CDS and Fabtech implemented a flexible registration and check-in plan with satellite badge pickup locations and the mobile Line Busters system, along with self-check-in and registration areas across the convention center. The approach processed attendees through multiple touchpoints, and more than half used the time-saving options; 73% of badges were printed in 3 hours, average wait time with Line Busters was 48 seconds, and 79% of attendees and exhibitors used alternative methods instead of the traditional main registration desk.
