Leading poultry supplier worked with Controlant to investigate recurring spoilage and shipment returns across its U.S. cold chain. The customer was struggling to identify why products were failing at major restaurant and retail grocery accounts, and prior studies using traditional offline temperature loggers had not revealed the root cause.

Controlant deployed real-time IoT temperature, location, and light tracking loggers plus cloud-based monitoring and cold chain services to trace shipments from production through distribution to store or restaurant locations. The data uncovered that 56% of monitored restaurant shipments had excursions at onsite coolers running at 40–45°F, while 48% of retail shipments experienced overly cold reefer temperatures below 25°F; with Controlant’s insights, the poultry supplier corrected cooler settings and reefer temperatures to reduce returns, spoilage, and waste.
