Brooklyn Public Library - Customer Case Study

Brooklyn Public Library, the fifth-largest public library serving 2.5 million people and operating more than 1,100 public computers, received 1,000 Google Nexus 7 tablets after Hurricane Sandy and needed a scalable, centrally managed filtering solution to lend those devices for home use while maintaining CIPA compliance. To meet these requirements the library evaluated ContentWatch’s Net Nanny for Android alongside a competing free solution.

ContentWatch’s Net Nanny for Android was chosen for its centralized management, per-user profiles, and easy-to-use Application Manager, which let BPL set policies, reliably block unwanted sites, and control what patrons can do on each tablet. Despite tight budgets, the library deployed Net Nanny across the tablet program, enabling secure home lending in Sandy-impacted neighborhoods and giving staff the policy control they needed to protect young patrons.
