Curtsy, a sustainable women’s fashion marketplace serving millions of U.S. shoppers and sellers, faced poor search performance from Algolia that led the team to de-prioritize search in the app and build manual ML workarounds to intercept popular queries. Seeking an intent-driven solution, Curtsy evaluated and engaged Constructor.io’s ML-backed product discovery (including Autosuggest, Recommendations, and Cognitive Embeddings Search) to deliver search that understands user intent rather than relying on simple text matching.
Constructor.io implemented a Proof Schedule and rolled out its Cognitive Embeddings Search, personalized recommendations, and autosuggest, which eliminated much of Curtsy’s manual tuning and restored search as a core experience. The switch produced measurable gains versus Algolia: +10.7% search conversion, +23% user clicks on recommendations, and -14.5% reformulated searches, while enabling new features like saved searches and simplifying merchandising workflows.
