Case Study: Smart Dubai achieves a paperless, blockchain-powered government with ConsenSys

A ConsenSys Case Study

Preview of the Smart Dubai Case Study

Blockchain Powering the City of the Future

Smart Dubai, the government-led initiative to make Dubai the “happiest city on earth,” set an ambitious Blockchain 2020 Mandate to run blockchain in 100% of applicable government services and digitize the roughly 1 billion sheets of paper produced annually. To meet this challenge it selected ConsenSys via an RFP to deliver an Enterprise Ethereum–based solution, including a Blockchain Platform as a Service (BPaaS) and a blockchain-enabled digital identity (UAE Pass).

ConsenSys led rapid ideation and technical analysis, built an Ethereum sandbox, ran 40–60 prototyping workshops, and produced a BPaaS blueprint (delivered with telco du) plus UAE Pass and the Smart City University learning platform. The result: a managed, pay-as-you-go BPaaS adopted for government prototyping, a paperless strategy to digitize 1 billion documents, and projected annual savings of 5.5 billion dirhams—achievements driven by ConsenSys’s solutions.
