A Connexall Case Study
Willis-Knighton Health System’s 42-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Shreveport, Louisiana faced monitoring and communication challenges due to its private-room design and the need for continuous, error-free observation of high-risk infants. To ensure alarms and clinical data were never missed or misinterpreted, Willis-Knighton turned to Connexall to centralize event routing and integrate bedside monitors with caregiver communications.
Connexall integrated SpaceLabs CEI, Dräger ventilators and incubators, and the Executone Carecom II nurse call system, routing filtered, rules-based alarm notifications to clinicians’ Vocera badges with automatic escalation and two-way communication. The Connexall implementation delivered real-time, 24/7 status tracking, reduced response times to monitor alarms, minimized overhead paging, increased family satisfaction, and provided detailed audit reports of alarm delivery and acknowledgements for performance benchmarking.
