Optimizing Workflow To Increase Resident Safety

Providence Healthcare Foundation, a leading Toronto rehabilitation and long-term care provider, faced unreliable nurse call and resident wandering safety systems and an aging phone network that hindered staff response and resident safety. They engaged Connexall to provide an integrated notification platform that would reliably deliver alarms and nurse calls to caregivers’ wireless devices and guarantee delivery across shifts and temporary device outages.

Connexall implemented an integrated solution tying together the Rauland Responder IV nurse call, SpectraLink IP phones, wide-area pagers, RBH Axiom access control and EXI wandering tags, plus email and database servers, with automatic escalation, role-based assignment, a distinct ring-tone escalation scheme, and automated scheduling for breaks. The result was dramatically reduced response times (targeting 3–5 minutes), more reliable alarm delivery, simplified workflows and improved resident safety and staff satisfaction—realizing the operational improvements Connexall set out to deliver.
