Manage Alarms & Communication to Enhance Patient Flow

Oklahoma Heart Hospital (OHH), a tertiary cardiovascular care facility, needed to replace a closed-loop paging system that sent every monitor alarm as low-quality waveforms to alphanumeric pagers and alerted multiple nurses simultaneously. To improve alarm triage, filtering and mobile access to patient data, OHH selected Connexall to integrate with their Dräger monitors and deliver notifications to clinicians’ BlackBerry devices.

Connexall implemented a platform that sends high-resolution waveforms and vital signs to BlackBerrys, filters nuisance alarms by category, and lets clinicians acknowledge alerts on-device so alarms stop on other recipients’ devices. As a result, Connexall significantly reduced nuisance alarms, delivered alarms faster, enabled clinicians to make decisions en route, cut duplicate responses, and provided tracking/reporting to review and improve response times.
