How do you Monitor 300 Alarms, Improve Patient Safety and Increase Staff Peace of Mind

Grand River Hospital, a 470‑bed community hospital serving about 500,000 residents, faced the challenge of monitoring hundreds of disparate alarms (security, medical gas, fire, building systems, patient wandering, etc.) using manual, ad hoc processes that depended on staff memory and intervention. To centralize and automate alarm management without costly new equipment, Grand River engaged Connexall to integrate its Delta Building Automation System, Siemens Fire Panel, Austco Nurse Call and Watchmate Patient Wandering System.

Connexall implemented a centralized alarm-monitoring and notification solution that now automatically monitors over 300 alarms and sends notifications to wireless phones and staff computers with automatic escalation and group notification. The Connexall deployment reduced manual intervention, improved reliability and response times, increased staff mobility and accountability through reporting, and freed staff to focus more on patient‑safety culture—with Grand River planning to expand Connexall across future redevelopment projects.
