Oracle Financial Services applied Conformiq Model Based Testing methodology to functional testing of core banking services

Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS) sought to demonstrate the value of its enhanced testing services to a large US bank by improving the test design process for the bank's complex Exotic Options application. The challenge was to move beyond traditional manual test design to achieve better coverage, faster testing, and the ability to accommodate the bank's requests for year-over-year price reductions. To address this, OFSS implemented a Model Based Testing (MBT) approach using commercial software from the vendor Conformiq.

Using Conformiq's Automated Test Design software, OFSS created a model of the application to automatically generate test cases and executable scripts. This solution resulted in a drastic reduction in effort, with test design taking 1 hour compared to a manual 72 hours, and script generation taking 1 hour versus 240. The process generated 32 test cases covering 24 requirements. While no new defects were found in the mature application, the project successfully proved the efficiency gains and scalability of the Conformiq solution, allowing OFSS to showcase faster testing and easier management of design changes.
