Case Study: Ericsson achieves faster, more efficient model-based testing with Conformiq

A Conformiq Case Study

Preview of the Ericsson Case Study

Explains the difference between traditional testing utilizing test scripts and MBT approach, and discusses the benefits of MBT

Ericsson, a global telecommunications leader, partnered with Conformiq to adopt Model Based Testing (MBT) in their TTCN-3 environment. Their challenge was moving away from a traditional, manual test design process where each test case was developed and maintained separately, which was time-consuming and exposed engineers to low-level system interface details.

The solution implemented by Conformiq involved automatically generating abstract TTCN-3 test cases from a model of the system under test (SUT). This required a new test harness implementation approach, utilizing generic glue code libraries to make the abstract cases executable. As a result, Ericsson reduced fault slip-through, found some faults earlier in the development phase, and achieved an average reduction in development time and cost of 20-30%. Conformiq's MBT approach represented a paradigm shift that required new competencies but delivered significant efficiency gains.
