Case Study: Ericsson achieves 14x faster test script creation with Conformiq MBT

A Conformiq Case Study

Preview of the Ericsson Case Study

Ericsson has used Model Based Testing methodology with Scrum and is describing the approach, its benefits and challenges they faced

Ericsson, a major telecommunications company, faced the challenge of efficiently testing the operation and maintenance interfaces for a telecommunication system developed using an agile Scrum methodology. They sought to move away from manual testing to improve cost efficiency and coverage. To address this, Ericsson partnered with the vendor Conformiq and utilized its model-based testing (MBT) tool suite to design UML-based models and automatically generate test cases.

The solution implemented by Conformiq involved creating models that described sequences of commands and printouts, which were then processed by a glue logic layer to generate executable test scripts automatically. This approach resulted in a significant efficiency gain, with model-based testing being approximately 14 times faster than manual test script creation during the evaluation phase. Furthermore, the models provided 78% test coverage of the selected test specification, dramatically reducing the need for manual intervention.
