SEI Investments Powers Microservices Transformation with Event Streaming

SEI Investments faced a slow-moving, monolithic database‑oriented architecture that hindered innovation. To modernize, SEI partnered with Confluent and adopted Confluent Platform (including Confluent Schema Registry and Confluent Replicator) and Apache Kafka to move toward an event‑driven, containerized services architecture.

Confluent implemented an event‑streaming solution—capturing change‑data‑capture events, converting them to business event streams, filtering into client topics, and replicating data—enabling SEI to offload mainframe workloads, securely deliver near‑real‑time streaming data to clients, and break the monolith into Kubernetes microservices. The Confluent‑based platform increased project success rates, reduced data payloads by 10–20x, decreased mainframe work, and unlocked new business opportunities.
