Picnic Modernizes Data Architecture with Confluent for Streaming Analytics

Picnic, Europe’s fastest‑growing online‑only supermarket, struggled with legacy streaming infrastructure on AWS Kinesis that limited retention, replayability, tooling and exactly‑once processing for its customer and backend data pipelines. To support real‑time analytics and scale past 300 million weekly events, Picnic engaged Confluent and adopted Confluent Cloud (built on Apache Kafka) to modernize its streaming architecture.

Confluent implemented Kafka topics, Infinite Storage, and fully managed connectors to route RabbitMQ events into Confluent Cloud and sink data into Snowflake and S3, enabling exactly‑once semantics, easier monitoring, and simpler pipelines. The Confluent solution reduced infrastructure costs by 40%, cut the number of managed services and operational burden (~40% fewer services), eliminated data loss, and improved SLAs and scalability for Picnic’s streaming analytics.
