A Confluent Case Study
Nuuly, Urban Outfitters’ new clothing rental subscription service, needed an entirely new IT platform to track garments through multiple rental, return and cleaning cycles and to capture real-time customer interaction data. Facing tight seasonal deadlines, Nuuly partnered with Confluent and chose Confluent Cloud (with Apache Kafka) to implement an event-driven architecture that could be provisioned quickly and preserve event ordering.
Using Confluent Cloud and Kafka, Nuuly’s team built and deployed a real-time event streaming backbone in six months, with Confluent professional services auditing and tuning the system prior to launch. The result was a flawless, on-time launch and stable production operations (no erratic spikes), seamless integrations to BigQuery via Kafka Connect, and a measurable reduction in administrative overhead—avoiding the need to hire roughly 10 additional engineers—thanks to Confluent’s managed service.
