Case Study: KeyBank halves time-to-market and cuts legacy costs with Confluent's data-in-motion platform

A Confluent Case Study

Preview of the KeyBank Case Study

KeyBank Fuels National Digital Bank Initiative with Data in Motion and Confluent

KeyBank launched a national digital bank initiative after acquiring Laurel Road and needed to accelerate product delivery, democratize data, and decouple tightly coupled systems across its IT landscape. To meet those goals the bank partnered with Confluent and its platform for data in motion to make real‑time events broadly available across systems and reduce the time and effort required for integrations.

Working with Confluent engineers, KeyBank created an Open Banking Technology center of excellence and deployed Confluent Platform capabilities (Schema Registry, ksqlDB, Cluster Linking, and connectors) to stream events to downstream systems. The Confluent solution halved time‑to‑market estimates, cut mainframe and message‑queue cost projections, and de‑risked the bank’s shift to an event‑driven architecture, with expected measurable reductions in mainframe MIPS, IBM MQ usage, and ETL costs.
