eBay Korea Modernizes Core E-Commerce Platforms with Confluent

eBay Korea, one of South Korea’s largest e-commerce operators running G-Market, Auction, and G9, faced scalability and maintainability challenges from a 15‑year‑old monolithic platform as online demand surged. To modernize and accelerate development, eBay Korea partnered with Confluent, adopting Confluent’s platform and Apache Kafka as the messaging backbone to migrate to a microservices, event‑driven architecture.

Confluent implemented a Confluent-enabled microservices/EDA solution using Kafka to decouple services, simplify operations, and provide stable, high‑throughput streaming (able to handle 1 million transactions per second with no data loss) and multi‑region disaster recovery. The deployment delivered faster time‑to‑market (cut in half), rapid vendor support, zero downtime since the May 2021 kickoff, 70% of purchase‑order modules completed, and an enterprise‑grade MSA/EDA built in five months.
