Disney+ Hotstar Powers Explosive Growth with Real-Time Event Streaming on Confluent Platform

Disney+ Hotstar, the largest OTT platform in India with 300 million active users, needed to support explosive growth and massive live-event engagement (for example, 33 million users answering 2 billion questions during events) while improving customer experience and meeting data compliance requirements. To solve this, Disney+ Hotstar adopted Confluent Platform and Apache Kafka—using Confluent products such as Schema Registry, Confluent Control Center, and Confluent Auto Data Balancer—to build a real-time event-streaming foundation.

Confluent designed and supported an enterprise-scale event streaming platform that now processes 10–15 billion messages per day (with peaks up to five times higher), ingests 7–8 TB/day, and supports about 25 million concurrent users during big live matches. As a result, Disney+ Hotstar shortened time-to-market, automated scaling for huge traffic spikes, improved availability and operational reliability, and brought analytics in‑house for compliance and faster innovation—all enabled by Confluent.
