A Confluent Case Study
Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), the world’s largest microfinance institution with 75 million customers, needed to accelerate a digital transformation to expand financial inclusion across Indonesia and modernize its systems. To move from synchronous to asynchronous microservices and enable real-time analytics for credit scoring, fraud detection, and merchant services, BRI adopted Confluent Platform with Apache Kafka as the foundation of its event-driven architecture.
Using Confluent Platform, BRI implemented an event-driven microservices stack (including KSQL and Confluent Replicator) to power real-time scoring, anomaly detection, and an ISO 27001–certified open API. The Confluent-enabled solution delivered measurable results: fraud is detected in real time, loan disbursement times fell from two weeks to two minutes, agent banking sales tripled, onboarding via the API can move from sandbox to production in under an hour, and microfinance NPLs are effectively at 0%.
