Bank BTPN Sets Digital Banking Data in Motion with Confluent

Bank BTPN, one of Indonesia’s largest banks following a merger, needed to power its digital banking strategy, improve customer experience, and simplify a complex IT landscape. After an initial open-source Kafka deployment left the team without dedicated support or deep Kafka expertise, Bank BTPN engaged Confluent (using Confluent Platform and Apache Kafka) to set data in motion and accelerate streaming use cases.

Confluent implemented connectors and stream-processing tools (IBM MQ Source Connector, ksqlDB, HTTP Sink Connector, Schema Registry) to integrate back-end services, transform messages, and trigger cache refreshes—shifting load off the bank’s Oracle core. With Confluent’s support, Bank BTPN lowered costs by reducing DB licensing pressure, simplified its microservice footprint, improved real-time notifications and Jenius mobile app performance, and is preparing to decommission IBM MQ, demonstrating clear operational and cost benefits.
