How BMC reduces engineering work from up to 40 hours/project to minutes

BMC, a long-established manufacturer of laboratory fume hoods serving industrial, pharmaceutical and education markets, faced slow, error-prone order entry and product configuration that hurt competitiveness. With more than 20,000 drawings and engineering work that could take 4–40 hours per project, BOM creation was slow and mistakes—though rare—caused costly delays and long lead times for custom orders.

BMC implemented Configure One, re-engineered its products in 3D CAD, and integrated the configurator with its MRP to automate order entry and BOM creation. Configuration time dropped from hours to minutes, engineering effort fell from 4–40 hours to minutes (custom products can be completed in about an hour), shop-floor work can begin within an hour of order receipt, lead times for custom orders are routinely two weeks, errors were eliminated, staffing was reduced, and throughput and market share improved.
