ABB’s Electrification Products division — specifically the Protection and Connection (EPPC) business unit — faced a fragmented global configuration landscape: multiple country-based SAP instances, PTC Creo/Windchill, and unsynchronized local sales configurators. This complexity made bill-of-material (BOM) creation, quoting, and order entry slow and error-prone, and the division needed a standardized way to maintain global product and configuration rules while accommodating local pricing, availability, and market variations.

EPPC assembled a cross-functional team, ran an RFP and proof-of-concept process, and selected Configit (with implementation support from Infosys) as a single global configuration platform. A phased rollout across countries automated BOM creation, reduced errors, accelerated quoting and orders, cut printing and contact-center costs, and freed IT and staff for higher-value work. Financially the project delivered a 76% annual ROI, a 2.6-year payback, average annual benefits of about $2.39M, an NPV of ~$746K and a 3-year IRR of 27%.
