A Condusiv Technologies Case Study
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Facilities and Services team was running mission-critical MS-SQL and Oracle databases on all-flash arrays but saw degrading QoS as databases and user demand grew. Investigation showed Windows Server inefficiencies were breaking writes into thousands of tiny, fractured I/Os that forced the storage array to handle far more operations than necessary, slowing performance under peak load.
They deployed Condusiv’s V-locity I/O-reduction software, which prevents split I/Os and uses idle DRAM as a tier‑0 cache, running transparently with near-zero CPU overhead. The result: many workloads ran 50–100% faster, backups improved, and common reads for applications like AssetWorks AiM served from server memory instead of flash. In one production test, processing time fell from 4:03 to 1:06 while data processed grew from 1.57 TB to 2.1 TB and storage I/O dropped from ~13.9M to ~2.7M operations.
