Voxelgrids Innovations cuts MRI development time by 40% with Comsol

Voxelgrids Innovations, a medical technology startup, faced a significant challenge in developing India's first domestically produced MRI scanner. The traditional process of cooling the machine's superconducting magnets was slow, taking weeks, and relied on expensive, hard-to-obtain liquid helium. This made rapid prototyping and innovation financially and operationally difficult. To overcome this, they turned to multiphysics simulation software from vendor Comsol, specifically using the COMSOL Multiphysics® software with its Heat Transfer Module.

Using Comsol's software, Voxelgrids created a detailed virtual model of their conduction-based cooling system. This allowed them to simulate the complex cooldown process in less than eight hours instead of weeks, enabling them to test multiple designs and identify potential failure modes virtually. The solution implemented by Comsol reduced product development time by 40% and eliminated the need for costly helium. The result was the successful launch of a compact, affordable 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, making advanced medical imaging more accessible.
