A Comsol Case Study

Preview of the Thermofin GmbH Case Study

Thermofin GmbH grows from 6 to 800+ employees with Comsol simulation

Thermofin GmbH, a leading manufacturer of heat exchangers for refrigeration and cooling, faced the complex challenge of optimizing their designs for diverse industrial applications, such as cold storage warehouses. They needed to ensure efficient heat transfer and precise airflow distribution, particularly for sensitive tasks like cooling meat in automated storage rooms, while navigating the intricacies of designing components like finned tubes and gas coolers. To achieve this, they turned to multiphysics simulation software from Comsol.

Using Comsol's simulation capabilities, Thermofin engineers could analyze airflow, temperature distribution, and material properties virtually before physical prototyping. This allowed them to optimize finned tube geometries, design effective gas coolers using CO2, and solve specific customer challenges, such as designing a storage room with even airflow that prevented product from falling off robotic handlers. The solution led to successful deployments, like the five-unit installation with air-guiding veins that satisfied the customer, and provides a foundation for future innovation in heat exchanger design.
