Terres Réfractaires du Boulonnais uses Comsol to model 1500 °C heat transfer in 300 seconds

Terres Réfractaires du Boulonnais (TRB) needed to design economical and safe roof runners for blast furnaces, but the extreme temperatures near 1500 °C made direct measurement and process control impossible. The company turned to COMSOL, using COMSOL Multiphysics and the Heat Transfer Module to overcome this challenge.

Through simulation, COMSOL provided TRB's engineers with critical insights into the temperature distribution and heat transfer, which occurs mainly by conduction. This allowed TRB to create new roof runner designs that are lighter, easier to manufacture, and safer to maneuver, optimizing both economics and safety.
