Tauw improves wastewater aeration design with Comsol CFD for the Dommel river

Tauw and the Eindhoven Water Board faced the challenge of improving the health of the Dommel river by increasing the oxygen level in effluent from a wastewater treatment plant before its release. They turned to vendor Comsol, utilizing its CFD modeling capabilities within COMSOL Multiphysics to analyze and determine the optimal design for new aeration units.

Using Comsol's multiphase fluid flow simulation, the engineers modeled various arrangements of aeration units and configurations for an adjustable dam. This solution enabled them to optimize the plant's design in a cost-effective way before construction, ultimately enhancing the quality of the water to benefit the river's ecosystem and the surrounding inhabitants.
