A Comsol Case Study
Tata Steel, a major global steel producer, sought to optimize its induction heating process for manufacturing steel wires and strands. The challenge was to analyze and improve the complex electromagnetic, thermal, and metallurgical interactions to achieve better efficiency and product quality. They turned to simulation software from Comsol, specifically COMSOL Multiphysics, for this analysis.
Using Comsol's multiphysics simulation, engineer Ishant Jain modeled the induction heating of a steel wire within an AC coil. The solution allowed Tata Steel to study current density and other key phenomena to determine if their existing operating parameters were optimal. This simulation work is aimed at optimizing the manufacturing process across various products to reliably achieve desired mechanical properties, offering benefits in precision, energy efficiency, and quality assurance over traditional methods.
