Signal Microwave develops 70-GHz connectors with COMSOL

Signal Microwave, a company specializing in RF connectors for high-speed communications, faced the challenge of designing highly optimized components for 5G applications. Their goal was to create connectors that were electrically "invisible" by minimizing signal reflection and loss at frequencies up to 110 GHz. To achieve this, they turned to Comsol and its COMSOL Multiphysics software for multiphysics simulation.

Using Comsol's simulation tools, Signal Microwave could rapidly design and analyze connectors, significantly reducing the need for physical prototypes. The solution allowed them to optimize geometries and materials to meet strict impedance requirements, resulting in a measured voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of less than 1.5:1. This high-fidelity modeling from Comsol shortened development time, cut costs, and provided a close match to real-world performance, enabling the company to confidently deliver specialized components for the 5G future.
