Rautaruukki improves coating uniformity across shifts with Comsol

The customer, Rautaruukki, a metal components supplier, faced a challenge in ensuring uniform and undamaged paint coatings on rolled metal during the oven drying process. They needed a thorough understanding of heat transfer to optimize their coating technology. The vendor, Comsol, provided its COMSOL Multiphysics simulation software to address this.

Using Comsol's software, the engineer created a 3D model to determine paint heat conductivity and then simulated the entire oven process, accounting for heat transfer and phase changes. This solution from Comsol enabled fine-tuning of oven setups and feedback to paint manufacturers.
