Optimizing Built-in Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors

Schrader Electronics, the global market leader in tire pressure monitoring technology, faced the challenge of designing miniature Hi-Speed Snap-In TPMS devices that are sensitive enough to measure pressure while in motion yet durable against shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, and centrifugal forces. To improve design efficiency and reduce experimental cost, Schrader turned to Comsol, using COMSOL Multiphysics with the Structural Mechanics Module and the CAD Import Module for finite element and multiphysics simulation.

Using Comsol’s simulation tools, Schrader’s engineers simulated dynamic loads (centrifugal force, spin tests), environmental stresses, and various geometries and materials to iterate designs virtually, validate results against tests, and identify the best-performing components. The Comsol-based workflow sped up learning and deployment across teams, lowered physical testing costs, and supported more robust, sensitive TPMS designs for Schrader’s Hi-Speed Snap-In product—helping the company continue to supply some 45 million sensors annually.
