Nordson EFD optimizes static mixer performance with Comsol using three-section flow comparisons

The customer, Nordson EFD, a leading manufacturer of precision dispensing systems, faced the challenge of optimizing the design of its laminar flow static mixers. To better understand flow patterns and improve mixing efficiency, they collaborated with the vendor Comsol and consulting firm Veryst Engineering, utilizing the COMSOL Multiphysics software for simulation.

Comsol's solution involved performing a computational fluid dynamics and mass transfer analysis to model the mixer's performance, flow patterns, and pressure drop. The results showed good agreement between the simulation and experimental data, providing Nordson EFD with a valuable predictive tool that led to more efficient designs, better material utilization, and improved dispensing quality.
