Newtecnic optimizes 10–80 m façades with Comsol

Newtecnic, a UK firm specializing in complex building façade design, faced the challenge of ensuring that innovative, artist-driven façades were thermally efficient, structurally sound, and buildable. Their engineers needed to analyze intricate interactions like thermal bridging from support brackets and combined ventilation effects. To move beyond conceptual design, they turned to simulation using COMSOL Multiphysics® software.

By using COMSOL, Newtecnic could import complex geometries and perform multiphysics analyses to study thermal bridges, compute overall façade U-values, and validate design changes. The solution combined COMSOL with parametric tools like Grasshopper®, enabling detailed 3D modeling that captured real-world physics. This approach provided measurable impacts: it minimized construction costs by giving contractors precise requirements, reduced contingency budgets, and allowed Newtecnic to deliver performance-validated, economical façade systems for high-profile projects.
