A Comsol Case Study
The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), like many educational institutions, faced the significant challenge of maintaining engaging and effective engineering lab courses when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift to remote learning. To address this, Professor Roman Voronov and his students utilized COMSOL Multiphysics® software, specifically its Application Builder and COMSOL Compiler™, to create accessible teaching tools.
The solution involved building a library of 15 standalone simulation applications with COMSOL. These apps, such as the Orifice Flowmeter and Impeller Reactor apps, allowed students to visually explore complex engineering concepts and virtual lab experiments from anywhere. The project was a success, enabling continued hands-on learning remotely and even leading to a student winning the 2020 NAFEMS Student Award for an app developed with COMSOL technology.
