Medtronic advances ablation technology with Comsol

Researchers at Medtronic sought to advance ablation technology for eliminating soft tissue tumors. Their challenge was to understand and optimize the complex physics of the ablation process to improve physicians' procedural planning and implementation.

Using the COMSOL Multiphysics® software from vendor Comsol, the team investigated multiple aspects of the procedure, including radiometric performance and heat transfer with phase change dynamics. This multiphysics simulation enabled Medtronic to study and optimize ablation probe properties, ultimately working to enhance the technology for more effective tumor treatment.
