Institute of High Current Electronics uses Comsol simulation apps to identify critical satellite arc regions

The Institute of High Current Electronics faced the challenge of designing satellite systems that could survive the unpredictable and harsh conditions of space, which are nearly impossible to replicate through physical experimentation. They needed to study and prevent destructive electrical arc discharges in their electronics. To meet this challenge, they turned to simulation software from Comsol.

Using the Application Builder in COMSOL Multiphysics®, the vendor's product, the institute's engineers developed a diagnostic simulation app. This app identifies critical regions where damaging electrical arc discharges are likely to occur, thereby helping to decrease the likelihood of these events destroying their satellite electronics. Comsol's solution provided a way to numerically simulate the full range of operating parameters encountered in orbit.
