A Comsol Case Study
IAV, a major engineering company, faced challenges in developing electric vehicle batteries that avoided the high cost and environmental drawbacks of traditional lithium-ion technology while maintaining performance. They partnered with Comsol and used the COMSOL Multiphysics software to design and validate a novel twin-battery system combining sodium-ion and solid-state lithium iron phosphate chemistries.
Comsol's multiphysics simulation enabled IAV to successfully optimize the thermal management of their twin-battery concept, using waste heat from one cell to activate the other. This solution reduced the need for physical prototypes and proved the design's viability, opening up new, more sustainable options for car manufacturers and battery designers. Comsol's tools, including Application Builder and COMSOL Compiler, were also used to create easy-to-use simulation apps for efficient internal and customer distribution.
