A Comsol Case Study
Comsol's customer, Georg-August-University, Göttingen, faced a challenge in understanding and optimizing a groundwater dewatering technique called düsensauginfiltration (DSI). This method is less environmentally disruptive than traditional approaches, but its complex fluid dynamics were not fully understood, making it difficult to recommend for specific construction or mining sites.
Using COMSOL Multiphysics software from Comsol, the research team created a simulation model to analyze pressure distribution and aquifer deformation. This allowed them to directly compare DSI with classical dewatering methods. The solution provided by Comsol enabled the university to work toward creating clear guidelines for selecting and optimizing the DSI technique, aiming to save significant time and effort at future work sites.
