A Comsol Case Study
Exicom Tele-Systems Pvt. Ltd, a designer and developer of energy solutions, faced the challenge of optimizing the performance and safety of its battery management systems (BMS) for electric vehicles. To achieve the necessary precision, the company needed to accurately predict thermal behavior and potential thermal runaway in battery cells and packs. Exicom partnered with vendor Comsol and utilized the COMSOL Multiphysics software to address this engineering challenge.
Using Comsol's multiphysics simulation software, Exicom implemented a lumped-approach thermal model. This solution allowed them to efficiently study heat profiles, identify hotspots, and analyze thermal runaway scenarios for different battery chemistries. The results were validated against experimental data and were within a ±5% error margin. This application of Comsol's tools directly reduced the BMS development cycle time by providing critical data for optimal thermal sensor placement and system calibration.
