Esaote S.p.a. optimizes ultrasound transducers with COMSOL using a 1.66 MB simulation model

Esaote S.p.A., a producer of medical ultrasound imaging systems, sought to improve the performance and accessibility of its technology by optimizing ultrasound probe transducers. Their challenge was to maximize the effectiveness of these piezo-disk transducers, specifically investigating bandwidth and beam steering, to develop smaller, more effective machines.

Using COMSOL Multiphysics software, the team created a coupled acoustics and structural deformation model of the piezoelectric transducers. This COMSOL solution allowed them to efficiently analyze the impact of material and operational changes, providing direct feedback to manufacturers to optimize probe design for enhanced performance and steering capability.
