A Comsol Case Study
Researchers from Cornell University faced the complex challenge of simulating the production of puffed rice, a process involving interconnected physics like mass transport, phase transitions, and deformation. They turned to Comsol, utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics software, to model these intricate phenomena.
Comsol's multiphysics simulation software enabled the team to construct a structural–thermal–CFD–RF coupling model, creating a framework to determine optimal puffing conditions. The solution provided realistic simulations of the rice expansion process. Furthermore, the researchers extended the models into simulation applications used as educational tools, allowing students to explore various scenarios and enhancing multidisciplinary learning in food science and safety.
