A Comsol Case Study
BLOCK Transformatoren-Elektronik, a leading manufacturer of custom coiled products (transformers, power supplies, EMC filters and reactors), struggled with slow, aging simulation tools while needing to meet tight performance, size, lifetime and regulatory requirements for each bespoke design. To reduce prototype cycles and speed design validation, BLOCK adopted Comsol’s COMSOL Multiphysics software with high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities.
Comsol delivered parametric multiphysics models, an Application Builder workflow, and scalable HPC support (workstation and cluster runs with distributed/shared-memory parallelism), enabling BLOCK to explore full design spaces and run larger simulations remotely on a 22‑core, 272 GB cluster. The result: a dramatic throughput increase (roughly from ~8 simulations/week on an 8‑core workstation to ~42/week at 128 cores), fewer physical prototypes, faster product iterations, and broader access to simulation across the organization.
