Cochlear Technology Center Belgium optimizes implant design with Comsol on one uniform platform

The customer, Cochlear Technology Center Belgium, needed to develop a new Direct Acoustic Cochlear Implant (Codacs) that imposes structural pressure waves directly to the cochlea. Their challenge involved testing the complex interplay of structural, acoustic, electromagnetic, and piezoelectric properties in the device design without resorting to costly physical trial-and-error methods.

Using COMSOL Multiphysics software from vendor Comsol, the team simulated all relevant physical phenomena on a single, uniform platform. This simulation-based approach allowed Comsol's customer to thoroughly analyze and optimize the implant's design. The solution saved significant development costs and enabled efficient optimization of the new hearing implant technology.
