Case Study: Brüel & Kjær improves condenser microphone design accuracy with COMSOL Multiphysics

A Comsol Case Study

Preview of the Brüel & Kjær Case Study

Brüel & Kjær analyzes 4134 condenser microphone designs with Comsol

Brüel & Kjær, a manufacturer of instruments for sound and vibration analysis, needed to engineer highly accurate condenser microphones. Their challenge involved ensuring precision across a wide frequency range and preventing unwanted resonance in their devices.

Using COMSOL Multiphysics simulation software, Brüel & Kjær analyzed diaphragm deformation and the influence of air vents at low frequencies. The solution allowed them to map resonance frequencies, inspect thermal stress, and confirm that their vibration transducer would not resonate at the frequency it was measuring. This use of simulation from COMSOL enabled the company to design microphones with the high level of precision and performance required for perfect measurement.
